Three scenarios defined by 5G

In 2016, Huawei's PolarCode scheme was identified as the control channel coding scheme for eMBB scenarios by the international wireless standardization organization 3GPP, while the upstream and downstream short code schemes for data channels belong to Qualcomm LDPC codes. EMBB is enhanced mobile broadband, which is one of the three scenarios defined by 5G in the 3GPP conference. Huawei's PolarCode channel coding technology is only one of many core technologies of 5G. In addition to eMBB, 5G scenarios include mMTC and URLLC.

EMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband): Mainly for large-volume mobile broadband services such as 3D/UHD video, eMBB will develop spectrum above 6GHz in addition to spectrum development technology below 6GHz. Small base stations will be an important equipment to develop eMBB. Most of the spectrum below 6GHz is based on the traditional network mode developed by large base stations. Compared with millimeter wave technology with spectrum above 6GHz, small base stations are needed to speed up the development.

MMTC (Massive Machine Communication): Mainly for large-scale Internet of Things business. MMTC will be developed in the frequency band below 6 GHz, and it will be applied in large-scale Internet of Things. At present, the more visible development is NB-IoT. Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth and so on, which used to be popular in the past, belong to the small-scale technology for family use. The return line mainly relies on LTE. Recently, with the emergence of technical standards such as NB-IoT and LoRa, which cover a wide range of areas, it is expected that the development of the Internet of Things will be more extensive.

URLLC (Ultra Reliable and Low Delay): Mainly for driverless, industrial automation and other businesses requiring low delay and high reliable connection. In smart factories, because a large number of machines are built-in sensors, from sensors, back-end networks, commands, and then transmitted back to the machine itself, these processes, if transmitted by the existing network, will appear obvious delays, which may lead to safety accidents. In view of this, URLLC lowers the network waiting time target to less than 1 millisecond.
